WHY TRAVEL FOR A CAUSE?
409.000 workers in the Indonesian tourism sector lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In recent years, Indonesia's tourism industry has grown and is one of the main sources of foreign currency earnings. When the pandemic hits, foreign arrivals dropped by 75% from 16.11 million in 2019 to just 4.02 million in 2020, causing a hard blow to a tourism economy that supplied 5.7% of the country’s gross domestic product and provided 12.6 million jobs in 2019 representing 10.5% of total employment. Many unemployed turn to odd jobs and even hard labor.

Making it a significant contributor to climate change. Various activities contribute to tourism's carbon footprint, from flights, boat rides to activities and lodging. According to a study published in Nature Climate Change in 2018, tourism produced emissions will increase by 4% every year and will constitute a growing part of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
